How to measure?
Follow these general guidelines for accurate measuring:
Use a metal tape for measuring; cloth tapes may stretch or sag.
Measure and record the measurements for all windows separately, even if they appear to be the same size.
Round measurements to the nearest eighth of an inch (1/8")

Draperies
When measuring a window without an apron, measure to at least 4" below the sill. Rods may be attached to the window frame, within or at the sides of the frame, on the wall above the frame, or at the ceiling.
Finished Length: Measure from top of rod or heading to desired length (sill, apron or floor).
Finished Width: Measure rod from end to end plus returns (short ends of the rod that stand out from the wall).

Panels, draperies, balloons and valances
Width:
Order 2 to 3 times the actual measured width.
Remember that sheer and semi-sheer curtains require more fullness for privacy.
Length:
Measure from the top of the rod to sill, apron or floor and add 1".
Allow for sill clearance. Some styles feature a high header where material extends more than 1" above the rod. This extra material will be specified as included or excluded from the stated length.
For tier-over-tier treatments, top curtain should overlap the bottom curtain by 6".
Hint: To puddle draperies or panels, measure for floor length, then order the next longest size.

Note: Provide exact measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Inside Frame:
Width: Measure between points where brackets will be mounted: top, middle and bottom. Order the narrowest of these measurements.
Length: Measure from top inside casing to sill.
Outside Frame:
Width: Measure area to be covered. Measurement must extend at least 1 1/2" beyond window on each side.
Length: Measure from at least 3" above window to bottom sill. For windows without bottom sill, add an extra 1 1/2".
Scarves
- First measure from the drapery ring or from the top of the rod to the desired length on each side of the window. (Add 10" if you would like to puddle scarf on the floor.)
- Then, measure width of the window and add fabric as follows: for draping over pole or rod, add 36" for each cascade; for rosettes, add 12" for each.
- Total all measurements and order closest available.

How To Drape A Scarf
 |
|
1. Drape the fabric over the pole or decorative hardware, placing fabric so sides are at desired lengths. If sides have diagonal hems, the shorter corners of the sides will be toward the window. |
|
 |
|
2. Fan-fold fabric into generous pleats at each corner and where the panel drapes from the pole or hardware. Tug gently on the lower edge of the center swagged portion for desired drape; adjust folds. |
|
 |
|
3. Adjust folds. Secure fabric to top of pole or hardware with safety pins or double-stick tape, if necessary. |
