We take your security seriously!
We've done our best to ensure the privacy and security of your transactions. Your credit card number and other personal information will be treated with the highest standards of safety, security and confidentiality.
Orders placed on our site are encrypted using SSL technology — so your transactions are protected. With SSL, information sent via the Internet can be trusted to arrive privately and unaltered to our server only. However, in order for SSL security to work, you must use an SSL-enabled browser. You must have SSL 3.0 enabled in your browser settings in order to complete any secure transaction on our site. Follow these simple steps below to ensure that you have the correct settings enabled in order to complete a purchase.
For Internet Explorer 6 or higher:
1. Go to Tools on your Menu Bar
2. Select Internet Options
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. Scroll down to the Security Options
5. Then check the box next to Use SSL 3.0 if it's not already checked.
For Firefox 2 or higher:
1. Go to Tools on your Menu Bar
2. Select Options
3. Click on Advanced
4. Select the Encryption tab
5. Then check the box next to Use SSL 3.0 if it's not already checked.
If the box is already checked, then do nothing. You will be able to complete your hassle-free transaction knowing that your information is fully secure.
When you see either a solid key icon or a locked padlock icon at the lower portion of your browser window, then your site is secured through Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). If you do not see one of these icons, please contact your Internet service provider. When we transfer and receive certain types of sensitive information such as financial information, we will redirect you to a secure server and notify you through a pop-up screen on our site.
Please remember that e-mail messages are not encrypted, and so they are not a secure means of transmitting credit card numbers. If you're still unsure about ordering over the Internet, just call 1-800-688-2830 (for U.S. customers only), and we'll be able to take your order over the phone.
If unauthorized charges are made to your credit card as a result of shopping at spiegel.com, you will not be held accountable. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, federal law limits your responsibility for unauthorized charges up to $50.00. This means that your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50.00 of fraudulent charges. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
